In this intimate collection, Ben Larrabee presents portraits of his wife, Trudie, photographed over a 20-year period between 1997 and 2017. The book includes both black-and-white and color images, showing Trudie in a range of settings and moments, at home and during travel. Each image reveals Larrabee's masterful attention to composition, light, and emotional resonance.

Says Trudie, "He's often inspired to photograph me. It’s during those intimate moments when we’re hanging out and Ben notices me blow drying my hair, putting on makeup, stretching or just lying on the bed when he’ll say….'Wait, I want to get my camera, can you hold that?' or if he already has his camera he’ll ask me to 'do that again'.

He says I seem to have a spontaneous way of positioning myself that gets his attention. It might be the way I place my feet, how I lean on a pillow or sit in a window sill. He likes how yoga poses organize my shapes and activate my energy."

Each image represents a sliver of time and exposes the couple's profound mutual trust and respect for one another, which fuels their rich collaboration as artist, muse, and partners in their photography practice.

Responses to Trudie: A Portrait by Ben Larrabee

"Ben Larrabee’s photographs offer a rare glimpse into life's subtle magic. Each portrait of Trudie beautifully captures quiet moments of intimacy, connection, and grace. His art reminds us to cherish everyday beauty, awakening our senses and inspiring us to see our lives through a fresh, appreciative lens."  ~Susan Friedmann, CSP, international bestselling author of Riches in Niches: How to Make it BIG in a small Market

"Trudie is, above all, an act of trust. A visual diary that tells of a life shared, of complicity, and of time. It is an homage to the tradition of those who photographed or painted their muse not to display her, but to better understand themselves. A project that speaks of love, of gazes, and of the beauty that reveals itself only when one is not trying to show it." ~Anna Frattini, Collalter.al

"What a stunning, shimmering work of art and love. Ben has captured Trudie's long, lean beauty and natural essence so magnificently. The compositions, lines, and light are just lovely. I also enjoyed reading the Meer article by Noelle Newell with Ben's reflections on the artist and muse story you two embody. Congrats to the dynamic duo!" ~N. Dougherty, Portsmouth, NH

“A celebration of partnership, feminine strength, and the art of seeing beauty in everyday moments. It reminds us that real love isn’t about perfection – it’s about being cherished exactly as you are.”

“An exploration of how a sustained attention to a single subject can reveal endless artistic possibilities.”

“Provides insight into the lineage of important 20th century photographers (Stieglitz, Weston, Callahan), demonstrating how artistic traditions are passed down through mentorship of intimate portraiture.”
