We made the journey to Great Point four times to photograph the lighthouse. Each day I looked at the images feeling like something intangible was missing. On the day before leaving the island a realization came to me during my morning meditation; the lighthouse was meant to be seen from the water.
It was a blessing that our friend, Carl Jelleme, offered to take us out on his boat the next day. When I saw the lighthouse from this vantage point I felt an excitement and connection that I hadn’t felt before. The point was closed off to cars because of the hatching plovers and we even had some clouds.
